Plan of Study – Digital Design and Manufacturing

The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Manufacturing offers a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree program in Digital Design and Manufacturing. Master of Engineering students must complete:

M.Eng Core Courses (12 credits)

  • ENGR 5311 - Professional Communication and Information Management
  • ENGR 5312 - Engineering Project Planning and Management
  • ENGR 5314 - Advanced Engineering Mathematics
  • ENGR 5315 - M.Eng. Capstone Project – Students are encouraged to work on a company-sponsored project that also benefits the participating sponsor

Concentration Courses (12 credits)

Choose any 4 courses for a total of 12 credits:

  • DDM 5110 - CAD for Industrial Design
  • DDM 5120 - Applied Finite Element Analysis
  • DDM 5130 - Data Science for Materials and Manufacturing
  • DDM 5140 - Engineering Optimization and Robust Design
  • DDM 5150 - Design under Uncertainty and Health Prognostics
  • DDM 5170 - Applied Structural Optimization DDM 5170 (new course, but based on existing graduate ME course)

The above-listed core courses are offered periodically (once every three to four semesters). Students are required to take four core courses from the area of concentration in which the student is enrolled.

Concentration Elective Courses (6 credits)

Two 3-credit electives (6 credits) are required from the courses listed below or from any of the concentration courses listed above:

  • MFGE 5110 – Advanced Manufacturing Quality Control
  • MFGE 5120 – Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Products
  • MFGE 5130 – Manufacturing Automation and Industry 4.0
  • MFGE 5140 – Manufacturing System Planning
  • MFGE 5210 – Data Science for Materials and Manufacturing
  • MFGE 5220 – Composites Manufacturing
  • ME 5520/CE 5164 - Finite Element Methods in Applied Mechanics I
  • CE 5125 - Reliability for Engineers
